The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has urged everyone to undergo dengue testing immediately after the onset of fever. The call was made in a press release issued on Sunday, October 5, by Dr. Moinul Ahsan, Director (Hospitals and Clinics) of the DGHS.
He stated, “All patients with fever are requested to get tested for dengue at the nearest hospital as soon as symptoms appear. If dengue is detected, they must seek medical attention without delay.”
Dr. Ahsan expressed deep concern over the recent surge in fatalities, saying, “It is extremely unfortunate that nine people died of dengue in a single day. Upon review, it was found that seven of them died on the very day they were admitted to the hospital.”
He added that most of these cases became critical because patients arrived at hospitals too late, leaving doctors with limited time to provide adequate treatment. Of the remaining two, one patient also died the day after admission. The delay in seeking medical care continues to make it difficult to treat critical dengue cases effectively.
Reassuring the public, Dr. Ahsan said that the health department remains alert and active regarding dengue management. He noted that all hospitals have adequate stocks of testing kits, saline, and necessary medicines.
However, he emphasized that reducing dengue-related deaths requires early diagnosis, treatment according to established medical guidelines, and effective mosquito control measures. The health department has sought cooperation from all relevant authorities and the public to ensure these measures are implemented promptly.
