Sentinel-2 Captures Mali’s Dynamic Inland Delta
The Inland Delta of the Niger River in Mali, designated as a Ramsar wetland of international importance in 2004, serves as a vital hub for agriculture and biodiversity. At the delta’s northern edge, close to the Sahara Desert, persistent wind patterns have sculpted long, parallel ridges of sand dunes. These elevated formations remain above water even during peak flooding, while the lower interdune areas become submerged, forming an intricate mosaic of lakes and channels.
