
DHAKA, BANGLADESH – Professor Dr. Jamilur Rahman of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) has been awarded the prestigious 'Outstanding Senior Scientist Award' by the Global Network of Bangladeshi Biotechnologists (GNOBB).
His name was announced among the winners of the GNOBB Award for Scientific Excellence-2025. This recognition highlights his significant contributions to the field of agricultural research and biotechnology in Bangladesh.
Alongside Dr. Rahman, three other distinguished scientists were honored in different categories. Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Azad received the 'Lifetime Achievement Award,' Dr. M. Nazmul Haque was presented with the 'Outstanding Early-Mid Career Scientist Award,' and Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Alam won the 'Outstanding Non-Resident Bangladeshi Scientist Award.'
The awards will be officially presented to the winners during the GNOBB Award Session at the 6th International Conference on Biotechnology in Health and Agriculture (ICBHA-2025) on September 8.
Upon receiving the news, Professor Dr. Jamilur Rahman shared his vision and commitment to the nation's agricultural sector. "My vision is to make Bangladesh's agriculture sustainable and advanced through innovative agricultural research to combat the climate crisis and nutritional deficiencies," he stated.
He further elaborated on his mission, saying, "My mission is to develop and innovate high-yielding and stress-tolerant varieties of major crops through genetic engineering and plant breeding, which will ensure the country's food security and contribute to improving the livelihoods of farmers."
The GNOBB awards are highly esteemed within the scientific community, recognizing Bangladeshi scientists who have demonstrated excellence and made substantial impacts in biotechnology and related fields.
