Heavy Rains Devastate Crops in Sherpur District
In mid-Kartik, an unexpected spell of heavy rainfall has caused severe damage to Aman rice and early winter vegetables across Sherpur Sadar and four other upazilas. The continuous rain from Wednesday, October 29, through Friday inundated large low-lying areas, submerging Aman rice fields along with early winter crops such as cabbage, cauliflower, eggplant, and tomato. Additionally, vines of bottle gourd, sweet pumpkin, red spinach, and radish have collapsed into the soil under the persistent waterlogging. Farmers who recently planted potatoes, mustard, onions, and garlic are now deeply worried about their seedbeds.
