After a brief pause, severe cold conditions have returned to Kurigram, disrupting daily life as chilly winds and dense fog swept across the district from Friday night, December 19. By 6:00 am on Saturday, December 20, the district recorded a minimum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius, while humidity levels reached 97 percent, significantly intensifying the sensation of cold.
From early morning, thick fog blanketed the entire district. With no sunlight visible until around 9:30 am, the intensity of the cold remained unchanged throughout the morning hours. The impact was felt most acutely by low-income residents, day laborers, and people living in char areas, many of whom were unable to leave their homes for work due to the biting cold.
Dense fog also disrupted vehicular movement. Vehicles on highways and regional roads were seen moving at reduced speeds, causing inconvenience and delays for passengers.
Local resident Mentaz Ali said that after several days of milder weather, cold winds suddenly returned, disrupting normal daily routines and making it difficult to carry out regular activities.
Subal Chandra Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge of the Rajarhat Weather and Agricultural Observatory, said that although the recorded temperature stood at 14 degrees Celsius, the presence of cold winds made the conditions feel significantly colder. He added that similar cold conditions may persist over the next few days.
