Dhaka, May 23, 2025 – Under the impassioned slogan, "We Demand Clean Air, Our Health, Our Right!", a coalition of citizens and youth, led by WePlanet Bangladesh, staged a march and awareness campaign today in Dhaka to spotlight the escalating dangers of air pollution. The event, held beside the Agargaon Metro Station, featured a vibrant display of placards aimed at educating people from all walks of life about the critical issue and galvanizing collective action.
The initiative, organized by WePlanet Bangladesh alongside its allies and partner organizations, sought to engage and empower individuals, particularly the youth, to address the pervasive threat of air pollution.
Md. Arif Hossain, representing WePlanet Bangladesh and serving as the Regional Head of Asia for WePlanet International, underscored the severity of the crisis. "Air pollution is a silent killer affecting our health, productivity, and everyday lives," he stated. "We cannot solve this problem unless we change our habits alongside robust government efforts."
Hossain emphasized the need for comprehensive solutions to transform Dhaka into a truly livable city. "Making Dhaka a liveable city requires well-planned, science-based long-term solutions — and those plans need to be put into action effectively," he asserted, adding, "It’s also time to update the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act-1995."
Representatives from the participating organizations echoed the sentiment, stressing that clean air is not merely a health imperative but also a crucial factor in boosting productivity and fostering economic growth. They collectively called for widespread public involvement and urged policymakers to prioritize the modernization of environmental policies and the strict enforcement of pollution control laws.
The rally and awareness campaign were jointly organized by WePlanet Bangladesh, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Photographic Society, Light to Life, Seekto Bangladesh, Youth Action for Social Development, and Farming Future Bangladesh.
