A massive whale carcass has washed ashore in a coastal city in Spain, drawing attention due to its extraordinary size. The whale measured nearly 70 feet in length and weighed more than 30 tonnes.
The dead whale drifted into a port in the city of A Coruña on Tuesday, December 16.
The cause of the whale’s death remains unknown. Authorities believe the animal died at sea before its body drifted toward the shore.
A forensic team collected samples from the carcass to determine the cause of death. Due to the whale’s immense size and weight, the carcass had to be cut into several smaller sections to be removed from the coast. The operation required the use of cranes and the assistance of specialised teams.
