A rare 50-kilogram Olive Ridley sea turtle has been rescued by the Forest Department in Bhola Sadar Upazila. The turtle was recovered late Monday night from the Poranganj Bazar area of East Elisha Union.
According to the Forest Department and local sources, the turtle was discovered around 2:30 a.m. in a sack at Poranganj. Officials immediately collected the animal and brought it to the Forest Department office for safety. The turtle has received initial medical treatment and is currently under observation.
Sufol Roy, Range Officer of Bhola Sadar Forest Division, confirmed the rescue and stated that the “olive-colored sea turtle,” weighing approximately 50 kilograms, is being kept under official custody for monitoring. He added that the animal will be released on Wednesday near the coastal area adjacent to Dhalchar in Charfasson Upazila.
The Forest Department noted that the release will take place once the turtle is assessed to be fully stable, ensuring its safe return to the marine environment.
