The natural wetland located inside the Deundi Tea Estate in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj has emerged as a new tourist attraction, drawing visitors fascinated by its vibrant display of red water lilies. Every year during this season, the wetland bursts into full bloom, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding tea gardens and offering an exceptional scenic experience. People of all ages continue to crowd the area daily to enjoy its captivating beauty.
From the beginning of autumn until the end of winter, the wetland becomes awash with red water lilies at sunrise. The early morning environment, wrapped in mist and enriched by birdsong, creates an unparalleled atmosphere. The combined beauty of hills, sky, and water lilies delivers a unique sense of serenity for visitors, many of whom engage in photoshoots and video recordings as they explore the site.
Among travel enthusiasts, the wetland has become widely known as the “Kingdom of Water Lilies.” In addition to viewing the blooms, tourists are drawn to the scenic hills encircling the area, which further enhance its appeal. The influx of tourists continues to rise each season. However, visitors have raised concerns over the lack of toilet facilities, limited parking arrangements, and inadequate security at the site. They have urged the authorities to take steps to protect the wetland and improve safety measures.
A tourist named Aman Ullah said the red water lilies inside the tea estate create an extraordinarily beautiful view. He noted that the combination of tranquil surroundings and vibrant water lily blossoms feels like a slice of paradise within the tea garden landscape.
Another visitor, Nayon Mia, said the natural beauty of the water lilies is truly enchanting. However, he expressed concern that some people collect the flowers, damaging the landscape. He called on local authorities to take action to preserve the wetland’s visual appeal.
A female tourist, Bipasha Das, said she had heard many descriptions of the location’s beauty and was pleased to see that the reality matched the praise. She added that witnessing the tea gardens alongside the water lily wetland was a delightful experience.
Chunarughat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ziaur Rahman said he would speak with the relevant authorities regarding the construction of toilet facilities for visiting tourists. He added that initiatives would also be taken to strengthen security in the area.
