A fisherman has caught a 23-kilogram catla fish in the Karnaphuli River in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati, selling it for Tk 23,000.
Local fisherman Ujjal Mallik caught the fish on Monday evening while fishing in the river.
Speaking to the media, he said he had gone to the Karnaphuli River near the Koyla Depot area of Chandraghona union in Kaptai with a kechki net to catch small fish when the large catla was unexpectedly caught in his net.
After returning to the riverbank, the fish was weighed and found to be 23 kilograms. He later sold it at a rate of Tk 1,000 per kilogram, earning a total of Tk 23,000.
Ujjal Mallik said that his net had previously caught catla fish weighing 12 and 13 kilograms, but this was the largest fish he had caught so far.
