Three separate fire incidents have occurred at different locations in Netrakona Sadar upazila, resulting in extensive damage to a farm, livestock losses, and the destruction of several structures.
At Brothers Multipurpose Farm in Kailati village under Kailati Union, a fire destroyed a semi-permanent structure, furniture, poultry, fish feed, and a goat shed, killing 29 goats. In addition, a haystack in Kailati village and a thatched structure at Chollishakanda Mor were also burned in separate incidents.
According to those affected, a farm employee first noticed the fire at Brothers Multipurpose Farm around 4:00 am on Sunday. Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert and managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly two hours of efforts. During the same timeframe, a haystack located beside a road in Kailati village caught fire, while a thatched house at Chollishakanda Mor in Netrakona Sadar was also destroyed by flames. A general diary has been filed with the police in connection with the incidents.
Shah Rafiqul Rahman Apello of Brothers Multipurpose Farm said the fire completely destroyed the farm structure, 29 goats, and all goat feed stored at the facility, causing losses estimated at Tk 2.5 million. He added that it remains unclear whether the fire was caused by sabotage or other factors.
Netrakona Fire Service Senior Station Officer Khane Alam Khan said firefighters responded promptly after receiving reports of the fire early Sunday morning. With assistance from local residents, four Fire Service units worked for nearly two hours to control the blaze. He said an assessment of the damage is currently underway and preliminary suspicion suggests the fire may have originated from a discarded cigarette.
Inspector (Investigation) Champak Dey of Netrakona Sadar Police Station said police have visited the affected sites. He added that no written complaint has yet been filed with the police, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
