Six people have died of dengue across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Among the deceased, three were men and three were women. Meanwhile, 1,195 new patients have been hospitalized with dengue infection during the same period.
The DGHS confirmed the figures in its daily report released on Sunday, November 9. The report stated that between Saturday 8 a.m. and Sunday 8 a.m., 155 patients were admitted in Barishal Division, 132 in Chattogram, 278 in Dhaka Division, 220 under Dhaka North City Corporation, 115 under Dhaka South City Corporation, 114 in Khulna, 59 in Mymensingh, 113 in Rajshahi, and nine in Sylhet Division.
With these new figures, the total number of dengue-related deaths this year has risen to 313. Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 78,543 patients have been hospitalized with dengue across the country.
For comparison, during the previous year (January to December 2024), 101,214 people were hospitalized due to dengue, and 575 lost their lives to the mosquito-borne disease. In 2023, Bangladesh recorded the highest-ever toll from dengue, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospitalizations.
Health officials continue to urge the public to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites and seeking early treatment for dengue symptoms to reduce the risk of severe infection.
