DHAKA: A professor from Jahangirnagar University (JU), Professor Kabirul Bashar, has sent a legal notice to the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Professor Md. Abdul Latif, alleging that the VC plagiarized his published research.
Professor Bashar filed the legal notice on Sunday (October 19), claiming that a research paper published by Professor Latif in 2017 was a near-exact copy of a paper Professor Bashar had published earlier in 2014.
The complaint alleges that VC Latif's article used Professor Bashar's work "without the original author's permission." The 2017 research article also listed Professor Md. Golam Sarwar of the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) as an assistant researcher.
However, when contacted by agri24.tv, Dr. Latif claimed he was unaware of the research article. He said "As my former student put my name on this research paper without notifying me, I cannot assume any responsibility for it."
The legal notice initiates proceedings against the SAU Vice-Chancellor over the serious academic misconduct charge.
