Khulna University has expelled two students of the Mass Communication and Journalism Discipline over allegations of religious defamation. The university authorities permanently expelled fourth-year student Md. Rasel Sheikh and suspended third-year student Tanoy Roy for two years.
The decision was confirmed on Wednesday, October 15, by the university’s Director of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Nazmus Sadat. He stated that the disciplinary action followed specific complaints of religious defamation brought against the two students.
In response to the allegations, the university administration formed an investigation committee, which submitted its findings to the 27th meeting of the Disciplinary Board on October 9. The board, after reviewing the report, unanimously decided on the disciplinary measures.
Professor Dr. Sadat noted that the students concerned have the right to appeal the decision to the Academic Council through the appropriate university authorities, in accordance with institutional regulations.
According to university sources, both students were residents of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin Hall. Allegations of religious defamation against them surfaced on social media earlier this year. Following the incident, general students organized a human chain on July 1 at the university’s Hadi Chattar, demanding justice and disciplinary action.
