Cyclone Ditwah, positioned over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lankan coast, has continued to move north-northwest, according to a special weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Friday (28 November). The advisory reports that the storm is currently situated over the Sri Lanka coast and the surrounding southwestern Bay of Bengal.
At 6 a.m. on Friday, Cyclone Ditwah was located 1,955 kilometers southwest of Chattogram port, 1,900 kilometers southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,845 kilometers southwest of Mongla port and 1,840 kilometers southwest of Payra port. The storm is expected to continue advancing in a north-northwesterly direction.
Within a 54-kilometer radius of the cyclone’s center, the maximum sustained wind speed was recorded at 62 kilometers per hour, rising to 88 kilometers per hour in gusts or squalls. The sea around the storm center remains very rough due to its influence.
The special advisory instructed Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports to continue hoisting distant warning signal No. 2. Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to avoid venturing into the deep sea until further notice.
