Kualalampur, Malaysia: Malaysia is set to launch a ‘Graduate Plus Visa’ for Bangladeshi students studying in the country, paving the way for thousands to secure high-quality jobs in its rapidly growing economy.
The development was announced on Wednesday (August 13) through a post on the official Facebook page of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The proposal was discussed during Dr. Yunus’s meeting with Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education, Zambry Abdul Kadir, at the National University of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
Adviser on Law, Justice and Expatriates’ Welfare Dr. Asif Nazrul said the talks with the minister were fruitful, and he had given his consent in principle to the initiative. However, some formal procedures need to be completed before implementation.
Currently, around 10,000 Bangladeshi students are enrolled in Malaysian universities. While students from other countries have access to work opportunities, Bangladeshi students have so far been excluded from such provisions.
Earlier, Dr. Yunus also held a meeting with Malaysia’s Education Minister Fadhlina binti Sidek. Discussions in that meeting focused on increasing scholarships for Bangladeshi students and enhancing educational cooperation between the two countries. Dr. Yunus emphasized expanding student and teacher exchange programs and securing formal recognition of Bangladeshi degrees by Malaysian higher education institutions and government agencies.
The meetings were attended by Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Fowzul Kabir Khan, National Security Adviser Dr. Khaleelur Rahman, Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi, and Senior Secretary on SDGs Lamia Morshed.
