Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has confirmed that all individuals involved in the recent murder of scrap goods trader Lal Chand near Mitford Hospital in Dhaka have been brought under the law. Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday afternoon after visiting the Old Dhaka Mill Barrack facilities—including the Dhaka District Police Lines, Range Reserve Force (RRF), and the Traffic and Driving School (TDS)—the security adviser termed the incident “deeply tragic.”
“Incidents like the one in Mitford are extremely unfortunate and unacceptable in a civilized society,” said Jahangir Alam. “But law enforcement acted swiftly. Two individuals were arrested at the scene on Wednesday evening. Yesterday afternoon, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two more with weapons, and another suspect was arrested later that night.”
He added that police across the country are taking prompt action in response to such criminal incidents. “It’s not just Mitford—whenever something like this occurs, law enforcement moves quickly,” he noted.
The adviser also urged the public not to take the law into their own hands and to report any criminal activity to the authorities instead. “Let the law take its course. Our law enforcement agencies are actively responding to maintain order.”
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, SB chief and Additional IGP Md. Golam Rasul, and DIG of Dhaka Range Rezaul Karim Mallick were also present during the briefing.
