Bangladesh Seeks Market Expansion at Malaysia Machinery Fair

Bangladesh has participated for the second time in the 36th Malaysia International Machinery Fair, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur, from July 10 to 13. The event is jointly organized by Promas International Business Society and E S Event Management.

The participation was initiated by the High Commission of Bangladesh in Kuala Lumpur. Over 450 companies from 10 countries—including China, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Japan, Iran, and Bangladesh—joined the fair, showcasing their products across 753 booths.

According to a press release signed by Sufi Abdullahil Maruf, First Secretary (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission, the fair was officially inaugurated on July 12 by Malaysia’s Minister of Plantation and Commodities, YB Dato’ Seri Johari bin Abdul Ghani.

On the final day (Saturday), Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E. Md. Shameem Ahsan, attended the Business Matching Session as the Guest of Honor at the invitation of the organizers. In his remarks, he highlighted Bangladesh’s growing trade and investment potential and called for stronger engagement between Bangladeshi and Malaysian business communities.

Representatives from key business chambers—including the Guangdong Food & Packaging Machinery Trades Association, Penang Importers and Exporters Association, Teochew Merchants Association Penang, Malaysia Penang Elite Womenpreneurs Association, and Dewan Perniagaan Usahawan Malaysia—were present, alongside exhibitors from various countries.

In recognition of Bangladesh's active participation, the organizers presented a special appreciation award, received by High Commissioner Shameem Ahsan.

The High Commissioner also visited Bangladesh's two dedicated booths, where he engaged with visitors and introduced them to a diverse range of Bangladeshi export products. These included plastic goods, bicycles, luggage, stationery, garments, electronics, leather goods, jute products, and handicrafts.

Prominent Bangladeshi company PRAN-RFL Group showcased its wide range of plastic products along with Duranta bicycles, Travello luggage, Good Luck stationery, and Winner clothing. Vision Electronics also displayed various household items.

Other participating Bangladeshi firms, supported by Dhaka-based Alliant Ltd., included members of the Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners Association such as Raju Engineering, Naogaon Engineering Workshop, Naogaon Trade International, Swiss Biohygienic Equipment Ltd., and Sattar, Ripon, and Relax Metal Industries. These companies showcased their latest innovations and provided information through brochures and documentaries at the Bangladeshi pavilion.

The High Commissioner noted that under the guidance of Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus during the caretaker government era, Bangladesh has been actively working to diversify its export basket beyond ready-made garments by promoting new sectors through international trade fairs.

Bangladesh’s participation drew significant attention from international buyers, and the displayed products received positive responses from attendees.

Currently, bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Malaysia stands at approximately USD 3 billion. Malaysia is also Bangladesh’s 9th largest foreign investor.
