Farida Akhter, Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, has emphasized that ensuring the safe production of milk, eggs, fish, and meat can significantly help meet the protein and nutritional needs of the population—ultimately reducing the necessity for medical treatment.
She made the remarks on Saturday afternoon while addressing a views exchange meeting with district and upazila-level officials of the Fisheries and Livestock Department and local farmers at the Chandonaish Upazila Auditorium in Chattogram. The information was shared in a press release issued by the Ministry.
The advisor underscored the importance of minimizing the use of pesticides in the production of poultry, livestock, and fish in Bangladesh. She urged fisheries and livestock officers to take a more proactive role in raising awareness about safe farming practices at the grassroots level.
“Farmers are currently facing various challenges,” she noted. “Despite manpower shortages in the Department of Fisheries and Livestock, upazila-level officers are working tirelessly to provide medical assistance and guidance, which has earned them appreciation from many farmers.”
She also called upon private organizations to step forward alongside government initiatives to support the sector.
Referring to recent national changes, Akhter added, “In the post-July transformation, we must all work in unity to build a new and progressive Bangladesh.”
The event was attended by Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, Director of the Department of Livestock Services for Chattogram Division; Md. Anwar Hossain, Director of the Department of Fisheries; Dr. Md. Alamgir, District Livestock Officer; Sribash Chandra Chand, District Fisheries Officer; Md. Rajib Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Chandonaish; Dr. Ferdousi Akhtar, Upazila Livestock Officer; Tanvir, Upazila Fisheries Officer, along with local fisheries and livestock farmers.
