Farida Akhter, Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, emphasized the importance of preserving Bangladesh’s indigenous livestock breeds such as the Red Chittagong cattle and hill-region native chickens, which are not found anywhere else in the world. She said these unique breeds are vital to meeting the country's nutritional needs and are part of Bangladesh's natural heritage.
She made these remarks on Saturday while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar held at the Chandanaish Upazila Auditorium in Chattogram. The seminar, focused on youth skills development, was organized by "Swapnobilash Vidyaniketan" in collaboration with the local upazila administration.
The advisor also highlighted the importance of the Halda River's native fish species—rui, katla, and mrigel—which she described as original and unmixed, calling them “our heritage.”
Speaking on youth empowerment, Farida Akhter said, “The dream of Swapnobilash must spread nationwide. We must support small-scale entrepreneurs so they can achieve success.”
She stressed that one-third of Bangladesh’s population is youth and, if properly guided, this demographic could lead the nation to remarkable progress. She added that the skills, creativity, and hardworking mindset of young people are essential drivers of national development.
