Four more people have died of dengue fever in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease this year to 263. Additionally, 1,143 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country during the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) daily update released on Sunday (October 26).
The DGHS report stated that two deaths were recorded in the Barishal Division, while one death occurred in the Dhaka South City Corporation area and another in the Rajshahi Division.
In terms of new hospitalizations, the highest number of dengue cases in the past 24 hours was reported in the Dhaka Division, where 282 patients were admitted. Barishal Division followed with 186 new admissions, while Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation reported 165 and 154 new cases respectively. Chattogram Division saw 121 new cases, Khulna 65, and both Mymensingh and Rajshahi Divisions reported 56 new admissions each. Rangpur Division recorded 50 new cases, and Sylhet Division reported 8.
Since January 1, a total of 263 dengue-related deaths have been confirmed nationwide. The highest number of fatalities, 129, occurred under the Dhaka South City Corporation, followed by 39 deaths in Barishal Division, 34 in Dhaka North City Corporation, and 25 in Chattogram Division. Rajshahi recorded 14 deaths, Mymensingh 10, Khulna 8, Dhaka Division 3, and Sylhet Division 1.
Health authorities continue to warn that the dengue situation remains critical in many parts of the country, particularly in the capital and southern regions, as hospitals struggle to manage the growing number of patients.
