Four more people have died from dengue fever in the past 24 hours, raising the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 259 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). In the same period, 803 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. The data was released on Thursday, October 23, in the DGHS’s regular dengue update.
The DGHS report stated that two deaths occurred within Dhaka’s two city corporations, while one death was recorded in Mymensingh division and another in Sylhet division.
Dhaka North City Corporation reported the highest number of new hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 155 patients. Elsewhere, 147 new cases were reported from other parts of Dhaka division, 130 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 112 from Barishal division, 97 from Chattogram division, 49 each from Khulna and Mymensingh divisions, 37 from Rajshahi division, 17 from Rangpur division, and 10 from Sylhet division.
Since the beginning of the year on January 1, a total of 259 dengue-related deaths have been reported across the country. Dhaka South City Corporation recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 128 deaths. Barishal division followed with 37 deaths, while Dhaka North City Corporation reported 34, Chattogram division 25, Rajshahi division 13, Mymensingh division 10, Khulna division 8, Dhaka division 3, and Sylhet division 1 death.
The DGHS continues to monitor the dengue situation closely as the number of new cases remains high across several regions, particularly in urban areas.
