
The Ministry of Education has formed a six-member committee to establish two separate directorates titled the Directorate of Secondary Education and the Directorate of College Education. The announcement was made through an official order signed by Sifat Uddin, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Government Secondary-1 Branch under the Secondary and Higher Education Division, on Sunday.
According to the order, the Chief Adviser has given kind consent to the proposal of separating the secondary education segment from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education to form two distinct bodies: the Directorate of Secondary Education and the Directorate of College Education.
The committee, comprising six members, has been tasked with preparing comprehensive proposals, including separate organograms and detailed functional outlines for the two new directorates. The committee will be headed by the Joint Secretary (Government Secondary Directorate), Secondary and Higher Education Division, while the Deputy Secretary (Government College-1), Ministry of Education, will serve as a member. Other members include representatives from the Ministry of Public Administration and the Finance Division’s Expenditure Management Implementation Wing, both not below the rank of Deputy Secretary. Additionally, the Deputy Director (Secondary), Deputy Director (General Administration), and Assistant Director (Budget) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Dhaka, have been appointed as members.
The committee’s responsibilities include drafting the Allocation of Business for the newly formed directorates following the Rules of Business 1996, preparing their organizational structures, defining their distribution of functions, and determining their Table of Organization and Equipment (TO&E).
The committee has been directed to submit the proposed organograms and all related documents to the Government Secondary-1 Branch within 30 days.
The official order states that the directive has been issued in the public interest with the approval of the competent authority.
