The Agricultureists Association of Bangladesh (AAB), a professional organization of nationalist agronomists, has announced a six-member partial committee. Dr. Kamruzzaman Kaiser of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) has been appointed as convener, while Shahadat Hossain Biplob of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has been named member secretary.
The announcement was made on Saturday, October 4, through a press release signed by Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
However, the press release contained significant errors in the names of the universities. BAU was incorrectly listed as “Mymensingh Agricultural University,” and SAU was misspelled as “Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.” The mistakes sparked criticism and disappointment among faculty, students, and alumni, with many expressing frustration over the misrepresentation of their institutions.
Shahadat Hossain Mezboul (Mizu), a postgraduate student at BAU, stated that while he congratulated those appointed to the committee, he was concerned about the incorrect university name. He urged authorities to amend the release to accurately reflect “Bangladesh Agricultural University” in place of “Mymensingh Agricultural University.”
The partial committee also includes additional members from both universities. From BAU, Shahadat Hossain Chanchal has been appointed Joint Convener-1, and Dr. Shafiqul Islam Shaf has been named Joint Convener-3. From SAU, Professor Abul Bashar has been appointed Joint Convener-2, and Professor Jamshed Alam will serve as a member responsible for departmental duties.
The partial committee has been instructed to expand to a full 51-member body within the next two weeks and submit the finalized list to the central office in Nayapaltan.
