
Rainfall began in Dhaka on Friday morning and is likely to continue throughout the day as the monsoon becomes increasingly active. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain across the country over the next four days, with the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas.
According to the BMD, the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and the northern part of Bangladesh to Assam. An associated extension of the trough also reaches the northern Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is currently active over Bangladesh and moderate over the northern Bay.
Meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir said that due to the active monsoon, rainfall is expected to persist in Dhaka throughout Friday. Rain may decrease slightly from Saturday but could intensify in the northern regions.
The forecast indicates that on Friday, many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Some places may also witness moderate to heavy rainfall. Daytime temperatures across the country may rise slightly, while nighttime temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.
On Saturday, rain is expected in many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, and in some areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in isolated places. Both day and night temperatures may increase slightly.
On Sunday, many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions and isolated areas in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may see temporary gusty winds and light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Isolated areas in the northern and northeastern divisions may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly nationwide.
By Monday, many areas in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions and isolated parts of Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in some areas of the northern and northeastern divisions. Temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
According to BMD data, Sitakunda in Chattogram recorded the highest rainfall in the country during the 24-hour period from Thursday evening to Friday morning, with 89 millimeters. Rainfall between 44 and 88 millimeters is considered heavy by meteorological standards.
