Widespread Rain Expected, Temperatures to Fall Slightly

Rain is likely to occur across the country over the next 24 hours, accompanied by a slight drop in both day and night temperatures, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). The forecast, issued Monday morning, covers the period until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, are expected in most areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Many areas in Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may also experience similar conditions.

Moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in isolated locations across the country. A slight decrease in temperatures during the day and night is also likely.

The synoptic analysis indicates that the axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal to northern Bangladesh and onward to Assam. A branch of the trough also stretches to the north Bay of Bengal.

The monsoon is currently active over Bangladesh and moderate over the north Bay of Bengal.

In the 24-hour period ending at 6 a.m. Monday, the highest recorded rainfall in the country was 119 millimeters in Bogura. The highest temperature during the same period was 35 degrees Celsius in Tangail, Baghabari of Sirajganj, and Kumarkhali of Kushtia, while the lowest was 22.8 degrees Celsius in Tangail.
