Due to an active monsoon, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across the southern divisions of Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. The intense rainfall raises the risk of landslides in the hill districts of Chattogram, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban, and Cox’s Bazar. Temporary waterlogging is also likely in urban areas of Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal.
Meteorologist A K M Nazmul Haque stated that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds may occur in most areas of Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, and in several places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Some areas in Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram may experience moderate to very heavy rainfall.
In the 24 hours preceding 6 a.m. on Thursday, Kutubdia in Cox’s Bazar recorded the highest rainfall in the country at 101 millimeters. Dhaka received 30 millimeters during the same period. The highest temperature was recorded at 34 degrees Celsius in Tetulia, Panchagarh.
Meanwhile, squally or strong winds may sweep over the North Bay and coastal regions, prompting caution for maritime activities. The meteorological department has advised Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3. Fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and avoid venturing into deep sea until further notice.
The rainfall trend is expected to continue for the next five days across various parts of the country. Daytime temperatures may drop slightly while nighttime temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.
