Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University in Gazipur has, for the first time, launched a two-day international conference titled “Regenerative Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security 2025,” aimed at shaping future pathways for sustainable food security through the integration of global research, innovation, and practical experience.
The conference was inaugurated on Friday at the Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium. The opening ceremony was attended by Emeritus Professor Dr Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, as the chief guest, while Dr Stephen Mann, Head of Agroscope, Switzerland, joined the event as a special guest.
The inaugural session was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr G K M Mostafizur Rahman. A total of 1,200 researchers from Pakistan, Ethiopia, Switzerland, Nigeria, and various universities and research institutions participated in the conference, highlighting its strong international representation.
During the opening session, Treasurer and Convener of the Organising Committee Professor Dr Md Safiul Islam Afrad delivered the welcome address, and the conference abstract book was formally unveiled.
The keynote paper was presented by Professor Dr Wajid Nasim Jatoi from the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. In his presentation, he outlined the global context of regenerative agriculture, the importance of restoring soil health, and the urgent need for coordinated actions to ensure future food security. Speakers throughout the session emphasized the significance of international research collaboration, technology exchange, and integrated action plans for building sustainable food systems.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr G K M Mostafizur Rahman said that protecting soil health, revitalizing agriculture, and ensuring safe food for future generations is a shared global responsibility. He described the conference as not only a platform for knowledge exchange, but also a unique bridge for global cooperation and humanitarian commitment.
The conference also features exhibition stalls by renowned public and private sector institutions, showcasing innovative agricultural products and technologies. On the first day, technical sessions were held across 10 thematic areas, where 10 cutting-edge research papers were presented. Discussions focused on critical contemporary issues including sustainable food production, climate change, regenerative farming practices, digital agriculture, and related emerging challenges.
On the second day, research presentations will continue across an additional 10 thematic areas, alongside oral flash sessions, poster presentations, rapporteurs’ summaries, and the awarding of prizes to outstanding contributors. The programme is being moderated by Professor Dr Mohammad Sharif Raihan, Director of Student Welfare.
