The incident stemmed from a protest held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on January 9 at what was then Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, now renamed July 36 Hall. A group of students protested against the name change and made controversial posts on social media demanding the resignation of the hall provost and university proctor, which the university administration deemed damaging to its reputation.
Following the protest, the university formed an investigation committee on February 2, headed by Professor Dr. Zowaddar Faruk Ahmed (Fisheries Management), with Professor Dr. Sonia Seheli (Agricultural Extension Education) as member secretary, and Professor Dr. Md. Mozammel (GTI) as member.
Speaking on the decision, Acting Registrar Dr. Md. Helal Uddin said, “The disciplinary actions came after a thorough investigation and were finalized by the university’s highest disciplinary body. We believe due process has been followed in this matter.”
