The government has reduced the value-added tax on dates by 12 percent ahead of the upcoming Ramadan season. The decision was approved on Thursday during a meeting of the Advisory Council, held at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon and presided over by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The announcement was formally shared at a press briefing later in the afternoon at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the move, noting that the VAT reduction is intended to ease consumer costs during the month of Ramadan, when demand for dates traditionally rises across the country.
