Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said that following the import of raw mangoes earlier this year, China is now actively working to import jackfruit and guava from Bangladesh.
He noted that an increasing number of high-quality Bangladeshi agricultural products are entering the Chinese market. The first shipment of Bangladeshi raw mangoes was successfully exported to China in May this year, and efforts are now underway to secure market access for jackfruit and guava.
The ambassador made the remarks on Thursday while speaking at the inauguration of the Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo 2025 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka.
Highlighting the growing trade and investment ties between the two nations, Yao Wen said that China has been Bangladesh’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, with bilateral trade surpassing 24 billion US dollars.
He added that since August last year, more than 20 Chinese companies have signed investment agreements in Bangladesh worth around 800 million US dollars.
The ambassador also said that China has extended zero-tariff treatment to over 100 percent of taxable Bangladeshi products until 2028, reflecting Beijing’s strong commitment to mutual prosperity and sustainable development.
Yao Wen emphasized China’s readiness to work with Bangladesh in promoting green transformation in the textile industry by introducing energy-efficient technologies and eco-friendly materials. He said this collaboration would help enhance Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global supply chain.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in textile machinery, digital printing, and smart manufacturing to build a sustainable green industrial chain.
Marking 2025 as a significant year for the 50th anniversary of China-Bangladesh diplomatic relations, the ambassador said that the friendship between the two nations has always been driven by mutually beneficial cooperation.
Yao Wen also referred to President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI), which upholds sovereign equality, international law, multilateralism, and people-centered development. He said China believes the initiative aligns with global efforts toward fairer and more inclusive growth.
The three-day exhibition is organized by Savor International Limited in association with the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB). The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Shanghai Climate Week are strategic partners of the event.
The opening ceremony was attended by BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, BTMC Chairman Brigadier General S. M. Zahid Hasan, BCCI President Md. Khorshed Alam, CEAB President Han Kun, and other distinguished guests.
