Good news for Dhaka residents as the prices of most vegetables in the capital's markets have decreased significantly, by Tk 20-30 per kilogram. However, a few varieties still remain expensive. Vendors attribute this price drop to the increasing availability of summer vegetables and anticipate further reductions as the season progresses fully. This was the scenario observed across various markets in Dhaka on Friday (May 16th).
Compared to the previous week, tomatoes are now selling at Tk 50 per kg, eggplant at Tk 50-60, bitter gourd (korola) at Tk 40, and pointed gourd (potol) at Tk 40 per kg. Notably, papaya prices have fallen from Tk 100 last week to Tk 60-70 per kg.
Sajjad Hossain, a private sector employee shopping at the Rajanigandha Shantinagar market on the weekend, commented, "I found vegetable prices slightly lower in today's market compared to the last few weeks. Vegetable prices had increased significantly in the middle, with hardly any vegetable available below Tk 80 or Tk 100. In comparison, the market is somewhat cheaper today. Most vegetables are available in the Tk 50 to Tk 60 range. However, a couple of vegetables are still being sold at Tk 80 and Tk 100."
Meanwhile, the prices of fish and meat have remained stable. Broiler chicken is selling at Tk 160 per kg, Sonali chicken at Tk 200-210 per kg, Tilapia at Tk 220-250 per kg, Pangas at Tk 200-250 per kg, Rohu at Tk 350-400 per kg, Koi at Tk 300-320 per kg, and Pabda at Tk 400-500 per kg.
