Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus called on physicians to commit to ensuring healthcare services for all, speaking at the inaugural session of the first-ever Civil Surgeon Conference-2025. He emphasized that significant improvements, up to 25%, could be achieved with existing resources through a change in mindset.
"We have been given this opportunity to make a thousand-year change," Prof. Yunus stated, highlighting the potential for rapid progress. He stressed utilizing this "small window of opportunity" to revolutionize the health sector. He also pointed out that healthcare delivery extends beyond infrastructure, as doctors can provide crucial services in any setting.
He urged the reduction of corruption in the health sector and reminded doctors of their inherent power to save lives, transcending political divides. "We can bring a massive change within the resources we have," he asserted.
Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum, also speaking at the conference, emphasized government and NGO collaboration to enhance healthcare. She announced plans for 7,000 new supernumerary posts for doctor promotions and the recruitment of 7,000 doctors and additional nurses. Begum also called for strict enforcement against tobacco and e-cigarette use, and advocated for increased tobacco taxes to protect public health.
