
An endangered Slow Loris was rescued from a residential area in Lama upazila, Bandarban. The animal was retrieved on Friday afternoon from Merakhola Muslimpara in Lama Union with the help of a local journalist and officials from the Lama Forest Department.
According to A.K.M. Altaf Hossain, Range Officer of the Lama Forest Division, the rescue was carried out based on a tip-off from journalist Mohammad Rafiqul Islam. The Slow Loris had wandered into the home of Abdul Momin, a resident of the area, on Thursday night. He and his family captured the animal and tied it in their courtyard for safety.
Upon receiving the information, forest officials rushed to the spot and safely retrieved the critically endangered primate.
Mostafizur Rahman, Divisional Forest Officer of Lama Forest Department, confirmed that the rescued animal is now in the custody of the Forest Department. He added, “The Slow Loris will be released into the Matamuhuri Reserve Forest at an appropriate time, ensuring its safety and habitat compatibility.”
