
NOAKHALI – The Coast Guard has seized150 maunds of hilsa fish, worth approximately Tk 4.5 million, in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali for violating the ban on catching the fish. During the operation, three trawlers were also seized.
Lieutenant Commander BN Harun-Or-Rashid, the media officer of the Coast Guard, disclosed this information on Wednesday afternoon. He stated that a joint operation was conducted by the Hatiya Coast Guard Station and the Upazila Fisheries Department in the Tanki Ghat and Chairman Ghat areas around 1:00 AM on Tuesday night. During the operation, approximately 150 maunds of hilsa were seized after searching three trawlers. Subsequently, the seized hilsa was distributed among local madrasahs, orphanages, and marginalized families. The trawler owners were fined, and 56 fishermen were released on bond.
