Bangkok is the capital and most populous city of Thailand. The Chao Phraya River runs through the heart of the city, serving not only as a major waterway, but also as a key source of fertile land for agriculture in the city's outskirts. Over 40% of the country’s working population works in the agriculture and food sector, with rice, cassava, maize, and banana among the most important crops.
This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image, acquired on 9 February 2025, shows the urban-rural landscape of central Thailand, including the capital city Bangkok and the surrounding agricultural areas.
Copernicus satellites and services contribute to the agricultural sector by informing yield forecasts and assessments of agricultural land use and crop conditions.
