Yunus to Meet with BNP’s Tarique Rahman in London

London, UK – Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to hold a significant meeting with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London this Friday, June 13th. The meeting, confirmed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will take place during Professor Yunus's four-day official visit to the United Kingdom aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

The high-profile discussion is set to occur between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM London time at the Dorchester Hotel, where the Chief Adviser is currently staying. Speaking to journalists in Dhaka, Mr. Alamgir confirmed that the invitation was extended by Professor Yunus to the BNP's acting chairman.

"The Chief Adviser, who is currently visiting the United Kingdom, is scheduled to meet BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London on June 13," stated Alamgir at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office. "The chief adviser has invited our acting chairman...The meeting will be held at the hotel where Yunus is staying."

The upcoming meeting has generated considerable political interest. The BNP's standing committee reportedly met to discuss the invitation, granting Mr. Rahman full authority to engage in the talks.

Mr. Alamgir underscored the potential weight of the event, describing it as a "big event" and "important" within the current political context of Bangladesh. "I personally think that under the present political perspective it is a big event... Important event…Its importance is immense,” he remarked. The BNP Secretary General expressed hope that the dialogue could have significant implications for the nation's political landscape.

Professor Yunus arrived in London today for his official visit, which is focused on enhancing relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. This meeting with a key figure of the country's opposition is now a central focus of his trip.
