BGB Seizes Goods Worth Tk 6.9 Million in Sylhet Border Areas

SYLHET– The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized various goods, including Indian buffaloes, foreign liquor, and bidis (local cigarettes) worth approximately Tk 6.9 million, in separate drives conducted in the border areas of Jaintapur and Kanaighat upazilas of Sylhet district.

This information was released in a press statement by the 19 BGB today, Thursday.

According to the statement, a patrol team from the Jaintapur Border Outpost (BOP) under the Zakiganj Battalion (19 BGB) of the BGB Sylhet Sector, acting on a tip-off, conducted a special operation in the Sarighat area, which is located 5 kilometers inside Bangladesh from the zero line.

During the operation, 34 unclaimed Indian buffaloes were seized. The estimated value of the seized buffaloes is Tk 6.58 million.

In addition, separate operations conducted by the Surighat BOP in Kanaighat upazila and the Lalakhal BOP in Jaintapur upazila resulted in the seizure of 88 bottles of unclaimed foreign liquor and 84,000 pieces of Indian leaf bidis. The estimated market value of the seized liquor and bidis is Tk 300,000.

The BGB further stated that the total market value of the seized Indian buffaloes, liquor, and bidis is Tk 6.88 million.

The 19 BGB Commander stated that anti-smuggling operations, including intelligence activities, will continue to ensure the security of the border.
