DHAKA, June 28, 2025 – The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has unveiled an extensive series of programmes to commemorate the first anniversary of the historic July Mass Uprising of 2024. The nationwide and international observances are designed to pay homage to the martyrs of the student-led movement and reflect on its enduring significance for the nation.

Following a preparatory meeting, the ministry detailed a month-long initiative beginning in early July. A central aspect of the commemoration is the feature film 'Shraban Biddhroho' (July Rebellion), which chronicles the events of the uprising. The film is set for its premiere on July 5 at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum and will subsequently be screened at Bangladesh missions abroad and throughout the country via district information offices.

The commemorations will officially launch with a special prayer and discussion for the martyrs at Totthyo Bhaban in the capital in early August. A highlight will be a colourful rally featuring officials and staff from the ministry and its affiliated agencies.

From July 1 to August 5, leading newspapers will publish special articles, features, and supplements dedicated to the uprising. Public awareness will be bolstered through billboards, posters, and festoons distributed nationwide.

In a mark of profound respect, the government will extend special honours, grants, and commemorative gifts to the families of journalists who were martyred during the movement.

Further events include a publication festival at Totthyo Bhaban showcasing books written about the uprising, and a photography and graffiti exhibition capturing pivotal moments of the movement. This exhibition will be held at Totthyo Bhaban, the Bangladesh Film Archive, and various universities in Dhaka.

State-run broadcasters Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television will air special programmes, while an international seminar organized by the ministry will also be held to discuss the impact of the mass uprising. These comprehensive events underscore the government's commitment to enshrining the memory and ideals of the 2024 movement in the national consciousness.
