
Dhaka, Bangladesh – May 8, 2025 – Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar today emphasized that fostering awareness of the fisheries and livestock sectors among the future generation is crucial for propelling Bangladesh further forward. She highlighted that innovative ideas for national development must be sourced from the grassroots level.
The Advisor made these remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of "Innovation Showcasing, 2025," organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, held at the conference room of the Bangladesh Veterinary Council.
"The more innovations are shared, the more successful they will become," Advisor Akhtar stated, adding, "To ensure the benefits of innovation reach everyone, they must be disseminated to people in rural areas." She called upon all departments and organizations to present an even greater number of innovative concepts in the future and urged for increased participation of women in innovation activities.
The event, the sixth Innovation Showcasing organized by the Ministry, was presided over by Md. Tofazzel Hossain, Secretary (Routine Duty) of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. In his address, Hossain said, "If the skilled human resources within the ministry and its affiliated departments can be effectively utilized, the country will undoubtedly progress." He further encouraged a daily habit of contemplating new innovative ideas, stating it is a path to personal success.
Md. Imam Uddin Kabir, Additional Secretary and Chief Innovation Officer of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, delivered the welcome address. He noted that regular engagement with innovation by departments and organizations would make government services more easily accessible to the public.
Md. Rashidul Mannaf Kabir, Project Director of the a2i (Access to Information) Programme, attended as a special guest. Heads of various departments and organizations, along with members of their innovation teams, were also present.
This year's Innovation Showcasing featured a total of 30 innovations from eight departments and organizations under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. The exhibits included 11 innovations from the Department of Livestock Services, 10 from the Department of Fisheries, 3 from the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI), 2 from the Bangladesh Veterinary Council, 2 from the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI), 1 from the Fisheries and Livestock Information Office, and 1 from the Marine Fisheries Academy.
