A rare two-headed calf was born in Gagua village of Lehemba Union under Ranisankail upazila in Thakurgaon, creating widespread curiosity among locals. The calf was born on Monday evening, November 10, to a cow owned by local farmer Jalal Uddin.
As news of the unusual birth spread throughout the area, villagers gathered at Jalal Uddin’s home to catch a glimpse of the newborn. Many took photos and videos of the calf, which quickly circulated on social media.
Rupa Begum, the farmer’s wife, said, “We bought the cow from Katihar market during the last Qurbani season. This evening, it gave birth to a two-headed calf. I’ve never seen anything like this before—it’s both fascinating and a little frightening.”
She added that the mother cow is in good health, and they are feeding the calf milk using a feeder, as it has not yet been able to nurse on its own. “After hearing the news, many villagers and even a veterinary doctor came to our house to see the calf,” she said.
Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Rupam Chandra Mahanto confirmed the rare occurrence, explaining, “This is a congenital condition that happens due to genetic abnormalities during embryonic development. Such cases are extremely rare.”
He further stated that he visited the site and found both the cow and the calf in stable condition.
