BGB Recovers Livestock Worth Tk 2cr from Smugglers

A member of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was injured during a coordinated assault by smugglers while conducting anti-smuggling operations along the border areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj. The incident occurred during a series of operations on Tuesday and Wednesday that resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of contraband livestock and the arrest of one individual.

According to an official statement released by the BGB on Thursday morning, the operations were carried out in border areas under the jurisdiction of the 48 BGB battalion. Units from the Banglabazar, Lafarge, and Utma border outposts jointly conducted the raids. During the operations, illegally imported Indian-origin buffaloes and cattle, valued at nearly BDT 20 million, were recovered.

The most serious incident took place around 3 a.m. on Wednesday night in the Terapur village of Doarabazar upazila in Sunamganj, when a group of organized smugglers launched a sudden attack on a BGB patrol team. One BGB member sustained injuries during the assault.

Following the attack, a joint operation led to the capture of a suspected smuggler, identified as Md Arman Ali, aged 28.

The BGB continues to maintain heightened surveillance across the border areas to prevent smuggling and safeguard national security.
