RANGPUR – The 1000-bed hospital, a gift from the Chinese government, will be established in the Rangpur region. However, the specific district for its location is yet to be finalized, according to Dr. Muhammad Mustafizur Rahman, Joint Secretary of the Health Services Division.
Dr. Rahman conveyed this information to media personnel on Wednesday afternoon following an inspection of the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
During his visit, the Joint Secretary assured that necessary steps would be taken to operationalize the 100-bed modern children's hospital in Rangpur, increase manpower at RMCH, and promptly repair non-functional medical equipment. His inspection included a review of the inoperative radiotherapy, X-ray, and CT scan machines in the cancer department, as well as visits to various other departments within the hospital.
Dr. Rahman emphasized the significance of the Chinese government's donation in bolstering healthcare infrastructure in the northern region. He stated that the final decision regarding the hospital's exact location within the Rangpur division would be made after careful consideration of logistical factors, accessibility for the population, and existing healthcare facilities in different districts.
He also addressed the challenges faced by RMCH, acknowledging the need for additional medical personnel to cater to the increasing patient load. Furthermore, he pledged swift action to restore the functionality of crucial diagnostic equipment, particularly in the cancer department, to ensure timely and effective treatment for patients.
Brigadier General Ashiqur Rahman, Director of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, along with other hospital officials, were present during the Joint Secretary's inspection. They briefed Dr. Rahman on the hospital's current operational status, existing challenges, and the potential impact of the new 1000-bed hospital on the region's healthcare landscape. The visit underscores the government's commitment to strengthening healthcare services across the country and ensuring that the upcoming state-of-the-art facility serves the needs of the Rangpur division effectively.
