Two-Kilogram Hilsa Sold for Tk 9,600 in Rajbari

A two-kilogram hilsa fish was sold for 9,600 taka in Goalanda, Rajbari, on Tuesday. The fish was purchased by local fish trader Md. Shajahan Sheikh from the Daulatdia Ferry Ghat area.

The hilsa was caught early in the morning in the Padma River at Bahirchar, near Daulatdia Ferry Ghat, by fisherman Harunur Rashid. While fishermen in Goalanda regularly catch a variety of fish such as pangas, rohu, baghair, and chitol, catching hilsa has become increasingly rare.

The large hilsa, caught around 4:45 a.m., was later taken to the Daulatdia Ferry Ghat market, where it was weighed at two kilograms and sold at a premium to Shajahan Sheikh. Fishermen and local traders noted that while smaller fish are commonly caught in the Padma River, a sizable hilsa like this one is highly prized for its taste and market value.

The catch has drawn attention in the local community, highlighting the continued significance of hilsa as a valuable and culturally important fish in Bangladesh.
