The High Court has ordered that all activities related to the contract involving Chattogram Port’s New Mooring Container Terminal remain halted until the disposal of an ongoing case. The directive was issued on Thursday, 20 November, by a High Court bench led by Justice Fatema Najib, who delivered the order verbally during the hearing.
During the proceedings, the state assured the court that all actions under the agreement would remain suspended until a final verdict is delivered.
Earlier, on 30 July, the High Court issued a rule after the preliminary hearing of a writ petition challenging the legality of the agreement between the Chattogram Port Authority and a foreign company for the operation of the New Mooring Container Terminal.
The writ petition was filed by Mirza Walid Hossain, president of the Bangladesh Youth Forum of Economists, questioning the legality of handing over the terminal’s operations to a foreign entity.
