The government has given policy approval to a proposed government-to-government agreement with Saudi Arabia for the import of urea fertilizer in the current fiscal year. The deal is expected to be signed between Saudi-based SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company and Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC).
The decision was made on Tuesday (29 July) during the 23rd meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, held at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Economic Affairs Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, who later briefed the media.
In addition to the urea import deal, the committee also approved in principle another proposal to transfer Jalil Textile Mills Ltd., located in Bhatiari, Chattogram, to the Bangladesh Army. The mill, currently under the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC), will be repurposed to support the expansion of the Bangladesh Ordnance Factory (BOF) in the Chattogram area.
Several relevant advisers and secretaries were present at the meeting.
