
A large consignment of Indian cattle and buffaloes has been seized by members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-48 along the Sylhet border. The seizure took place on Tuesday night at Itachoki area under Rustampur Union in Gowainghat upazila.
The matter was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon at a press briefing by Abdullah Al Muid, Assistant Director of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB).
He stated that a special patrol team from the local Bichanakandi Border Outpost (BOP) and the battalion headquarters intercepted a consignment of 237 Indian cattle. On the same night, another patrol team from Lafarge BOP under Doarabazar upazila in Sunamganj district seized an additional 32 cows and 10 buffaloes from the border area of Dinartek.
According to BGB officials, the total market value of the seized cattle and buffaloes is estimated at around Tk 3 crore. Abdullah Al Muid described the seizure as the largest consignment ever recovered in Sylhet, adding that the operation was conducted based on confidential intelligence.
He further noted that necessary legal measures will be taken regarding the seized livestock and affirmed that BGB remains on high alert to curb cross-border smuggling activities.
